Whistleblowing Policy
This policy explains how staff and partners can raise concerns about wrongdoing safely and confidentially without fear of reprisal, in line with the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998.
Last reviewed: September 2026
What whistleblowing is
Whitelowing is when a worker reports wrongdoing that affects others, such as unsafe care, fraud, abuse or a breach of law. It is different from a personal grievance, which is about your own situation at work.
What you can report
You can report concerns about:
- Unsafe care or poor practice.
- Abuse or neglect of a client.
- Fraud or financial wrongdoing.
- A breach of health and safety law.
- Damage to the environment.
- A miscarriage of justice.
How to raise a concern
There are three routes you can use. The first is internal: you can raise a concern with your manager, a senior manager or our Registered Manager. We treat every report in confidence and will listen without judgement. The second is external: you can contact the Care Quality Commission, who are a prescribed body for whistleblowing. The third is independent: you can contact Protect, the whistleblowing charity, for free confidential advice at wb.org.uk or on 020 3117 2520.
Protection from reprisal
You will not be treated unfairly, dismissed or victimised for raising a concern in good faith. If you believe you have been victimised, you can seek legal advice. We take this commitment seriously and it applies whether you raise your concern internally, with the CQC or with Protect.
