    Duty of Candour Statement

Our duty of candour is our commitment to being open and honest when things go wrong. We will tell you what happened, say sorry, and do what we can to put it right, in line with CQC Regulation 20.

    Last reviewed: September 2026

    What we promise

When something goes wrong with a person's care, we will tell you as soon as we can. We will give you a true and honest account of what happened. We will say sorry. We will support you through it. And we will confirm what happened in writing so you have a clear record.

    When this applies

This applies when a notifiable safety incident happens, meaning an incident that has caused or could cause harm. When that happens, we will not hide it or play it down. We will be straight with you.

    Recording and learning

We record every notifiable incident, report it to the CQC where required and look at what we can learn from it. We share the lessons with our team so we can stop it happening again.
